Component 3: Preventing and combating trafficking in human beings

In recent years, certain countries from the region have strengthened their legislative and institutional frameworks, adopting a whole series of measures and laws, which represent a further step forward in the field of combating trafficking in human beings.

In view of its expertise, the CoE can assist the countries of the region in their efforts to combat this global phenomenon by means of this programme, the objective of which is to contribute to strengthening and protecting human rights, in particular through the prevention and combating of trafficking in human beings in line with the provisions of the Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings and other international standards.

The objective is that human rights are strengthened and better protected, in particular through improved prevention and combating of trafficking in human beings, especially of the most vulnerable groups (women, children).

The activities carried oiut included:

  • Awareness raising events and campaigns for officials and the population in general
  • Seminars for staff involved in the identification of and assistance to victims of trafficking, presenting the Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings and other international standards.
